Gre Psr 295 Software Piracy

Hi, Slight technical idiot here. I'm trying to use my old Yamaha PSR-330 as a controller in Reason. I've got a cheapo USB MIDI cable (Midi in, midi out one end, USB the other) and I've plugged that from the keyboard to the computer and windows has auto installed the hardware when I plugged it in.

I then opened Reason, tried to set up the keyboard and went Preferences->Keyboards and Control Surfaces->Add->Manufacturer: other, Model: MIDI keyboard (no controls), MIDI input: USB midi cable. Which made sense to me.

But i'm not getting any response from reason when I press keys, and I had a go at using the 'find' function on the MIDI input section when adding the controller, and pressing keys didn't get any response there either. I apologise for my idiocy, but am I doing something wrong? Is this even possible?
