Event Id 103 Software Installation
Posted by Daniel Weuthen on 21 Dec 2012 12:43 Problem: Deployment of MailStore Client or MailStore Outlook Add-in fails on recent versions of Microsoft Windows. In the Windows event log one or more of the following errors occur: Log Name: System Source: Application Management Group Policy Event ID: 101 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: SYSTEM Description: The assignment of application application name from policy policy name failed. The error was:%%1274 Log Name: System Source: Application Management Group Policy Event ID: 103 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: SYSTEM Description: The removal of the assignment of application application name from policy policy name failed. The error was:%%2 Log Name: System Source: Application Management Group Policy Event ID: 108 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: SYSTEM Description: Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. The installation of software deployed through Group Policy for this user has been delayed until the next logon because the changes must be applied before the user logon.
The error was:%%1274 Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy Event ID: 1112 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: User: SYSTEM Description: The Group Policy Client Side Extension Software Installation was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance. Solution: In a Group Policy applied to these workstations, navigate to Computer Configuration >Policies >Administrative Templates >System >Group Policy' and enable the ' Startup policy processing wait time.' Set ' Amount of time to wait (in seconds)' to a reasonable value for your environment, for instance '30'.
I am running into an issue trying to create a package using group policy software installation. I create a new GPO, go into it, select New Package under Software Installation, and browse to the location of the MSI. This MSI is located on a share that I have setup for GPO software installs. Once I select the MSI, I get an error 'Add operation failed. Unable to update the software installation information in the active directory.
Make sure that you can communicate with the active directory.' I tried selecting a few other MSI files and those work fine--just this one which came from a vendor (CCH) for an application called TeamMate Desktop R9.0.1. Several event log entries show up when I try to create this package as well.
